Uh…well anyway, I missed you awesome peeps.
I have been gone since May 2018, so it feels so good to be back!
I have missed all my chats with you lovely amazing and supportive humans, and all your beautiful, funny, inspirational, encouraging, and helpful posts. ❤ Now that I am back, I hope to drop comments on your posts, and I hope to meet lots of other bloggers. I am always looking for more ideas for blog posts, so if one comes to your mind, please share! As you all probably know, I am homeschooled (therefore My Honeschool Notebook), and I love making cards, music, theatre, writing, and cooking. That may help when dropping suggestions. 😉☺

Without further ado, welcome to My Homeschool Notebook, and thanks for stopping by! In today’s post I am going to be sharing with you seven study tips if you’re a homeschooler. 🙂
Let’s dive right in!
1. Keep a schedule
Speaking from personal experience, keeping a schedule keeps things organized and less stressful. Your schedule doesn’t have to be a full on sheet that marks down your activities by the half-hour.
For me, my schedule consists of what subjects I will be doing on a particular day, but I also have a sheet with times that I can look to for a guideline, so I don’t end up spending too much time on a subject and stress myself. Your schedule can be as simple or as complex as you would like it to be.
2. Set attainable goals, and reward yourself
Goal setting is a good thing. It keeps you on track, and it motivates you, especially if you reward yourself with something even as small as taking a break to go for a walk, or play with the dog.
But set realistic goals. If you set goals that you can actually reach, you’ll want to keep setting them, and you’ll feel accomplished.
A realistic goal can sound something along the lines of writing three essays in a week, completing a story, or learning a new song on an instrument you play. These will give you a sense of pride in the work of your hands, and will leave you less stressed than if you set a goal saying that you will finish your 100k word novel, have it edited and published within two weeks.
Now, I’m not trying to be negative, but remember that we are human, and we can only handle so much. And if we expect more of ourselves than we know we can handle, it’s not healthy.
3. Don’t bring your phone to ‘school’
Phones are tempting, I’ll admit. You have internet on there, you can message your friends, or play a game. My advice, is to minimalize your distractions while studying. It gets things done faster, and you’ll have more free time for the rest of the day. A reward for getting work done could even be to be able to use your phone for ten minutes before you move on to the next task. But time yourself. Ten minutes can easily turn into one hour. 😉
4. If you are stressed, take a break and go for a walk
Homeschooling can be stressful sometimes, as can public school. So don’t push yourself to keep on working if you have a splitting headache or if you feel like crying because you don’t understand a math question. Take a break. Even if it’s just for five to ten minutes. Take a walk. Get out in the sun, get your blood flowing and your energy back.
Or better yet – if you aren’t the kind of person who can’t get back into studying after taking a break
(sorry to those people) -, take regular 30 minute to 1 hour breaks. Personally, I like to study without taking breaks until I’m finished, but do whatever works for you.
5. Don’t school in your pajamas, and not in bed
A stereotype of homeschooling is that we wear our pajamas all day. Okay, that may be true for some homeschoolers on some days, but here is a tip for you. Don’t do it. Pajamas are comfy, right? They’re meant to be. And so is your bed. So don’t do school in them, because the chances of your falling asleep are high. 😛 Also, getting out of your pajamas in the morning is like a start to your day.
Sitting at a desk without slouching is the best way to study; it helps you think clearer, and plus, you won’t be getting any stiff necks or back pains because of wrong posture.
6. Be kind to yourself
It’s always easy to beat ourselves up if we don’t live up to our own standards. And it can be stressful. Trust me, I know. There have been so many times where I am angry at myself for not finishing all my subjects for the day because I was engrossed in the history discussion, or because I wanted to delve deeper into my biology, or even because I couldn’t get the math question right. But be kind to yourself. We’re human, and we can’t always finish things. Be kind to yourself if you don’t get 100% on that math test
can you tell by now that I’m no good at math?. The important thing is if you tried your best. Okay now I sound like my mum XD
7. Take notes, make flashcards; do anything and everything to make it easier for you to learn
It’s easier to remember details if you take notes. So take ’em. You don’t have to copy down everything you read, just look out for defenitions, key words, and anything that looks like it might be on a test. Not including defenitions, jot down important paragraphs in shortened, and in your own words. And make it fun! No one else is going to be reading your notes, so make them so that YOU can understand it. Color code your notes, use post-it notes, whatever works for you.
