UPDATE: For those of you who don’t know, ANZAC day is like Australian Veteran’s Day. π
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up your quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
– Dr. John McCrae –
We will remember them.
Lest we forget.
To all the men and women who served our country. To the thousands of Australians who died; heroes, defending our country. To the wives, mothers and daughters who waited for their husbands, sons and brothers to return, and to those who found their loved ones would not be returning. Whether our soldiers returned home changed forever and survived to tell this horrible story; our veterans; or whether they died fighting for our country, we thank them.
We can’t ever forget the courage; the bravery of the soldiers. That’s why we have this day; April 25th, to commemorate them, so that we never forget. We will always remember them.
We can never thank them enough for what we did for our country. But we can honor them, and we will.
Lest we forget.
p.s unfortunately I do not have any pictures of the ANZAC day service, so I have no featured image. My choir sang there at the dawn and morning service. Let’s take a moment to remember the fallen heroes of our country! β€
