Finally A “Real” Post {6 Reactions to The Sentence, “I’m Home-schooled”}

Hey everyone!

Sorry for that unannounced hiatus since AAWC… And sorry for the other unannounced hiatuses I’ve taken since the start of this year. The truth is, I bummed for post ideas. I have no idea what to write about.

I need your advice: what blog posts would you like to see from me, and should I change my blog name? I feel like My Homeschool Notebook doesn’t really represent this blog anymore. I have no idea what posts I am writing on this blog, and I think AAWC just gave an excuse not to write any real posts… So please comment down below your thoughts. πŸ™‚

Let’s get on with today’s post, 7 Reactions to The Sentence, “I’m Home-schooled”.

First of all, I don’t get annoyed with all if these reactions, because a lot of them are just innocent questions asked by people who’ve never experienced home-school. But some of them just make me think: “Do these people even think before they speak?” πŸ˜›

Honestly, they make me laugh. XD

1. “I feel sorry for you because you don’t have any friends.”

*me speechless* *me wanting to scream* *me thinking in my brain just because I do school at home doesn’t mean I have no connection to actual people other than my siblings*

Actually I’ve only heard this sentence once, from my friend who asked if I was still home-schooled. It really annoyed me because she simply assumed that I had no friends. I have friends. I just don’t see them everyday to the point where I want to be around some different people once in a while.

2. “You’re so lucky.”

This one gets thrown out a lot. I’m home-schooled, therefore, I am lucky. πŸ˜› I don’t get it…. why?*

3. “Aw….do you get to stay in your PJ’s all day??”

*and #3 is your answer

Nooo…. some homeschoolers do, and I’ve done it a few times, but seriously, it’s not smart unless you have an unlimited amount of PJ’s, or you can wash them every day…

4. “So do you get to sleep in every day?”

I prefer not to. But sometimes I actually do… shhh don’t tell anyone…

5. A reaction to me saying that I’m staying home-schooled till University: “Well someone’s living and isolated life…”

*me boiling mad but hiding it because the person saying this is my friend*

I’ve heard this once from my friend (why would he say this), and it made me not want to be his friend anymore (literally). πŸ˜› Especially since after that, I was telling him that my other friend is good at singing and dancing and stuff like that, just telling him, and he said, “Well maybe you should go to school.”

AARGH. Just because I’m home-schooled doesn’t mean that I can’t be good at those stuff. Is he saying that to be talented I have to go to school??

6. “Do you get to start school whenever you want?”

Not whenever I want, but our schedule is still pretty relaxed. πŸ™‚

Can you relate to any of these? I think numbers 2, 3, and 4 are the most used reactions. πŸ˜›

Do you go to public/private school? Are you home-schooled? What posts do you want to see from MHN?

  1. This is so relatable!!!
I get told number 2 all the time. Someone actually just said number 5 to me at church last week! Number six people say once and awhile as well. LOL
Thanks for this fun and hilarious post, Zielle!

  2. Hi Zielle I can totally relate to all of these answers because I am also homeschooled.
One of the worst answers is when people think I have no friends. Ahrr! It gets on my nerves! Also I love your blog. How do you get so many followers?

  3. Zielle, I would love to share one of your homeschooling posts on my site as I homeschool our children and it would be nice to get a homeschooled persons view so people can see it from that point of view instead of just a parent as a lot of people seem to think that it is all about the parent and that we are restricting the child… If you have one that you would like share please send me the link, it really would be amazing..❀️

  4. Oh boy, this sounds just like me! I’m blogging and I’m like what will the 3.19 followers want to read about. Good grief. And good grief to all these homeschooler comments! I get them all the time! No I don’t wear my PJs all the time, no I’m not isolated, no I am socialized, no I do not get it easy! And don’t give up on the blog, keep on keeping on! πŸ™‚
(Would you maybe want to be blogging friends? I sense a lot in common. πŸ™‚

    • Yes! I hate it how people just assume things about us; especially our friends! 😦 πŸ˜‰
      Aw, thanks. ❀ I'll try. πŸ™‚
Of course I would! Me too! πŸ˜‰

  5. YES. EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THESE I HAVE BEEN TOLD. People are just like, “Lucky!” as in, “I know you’re not really doing school – how LUCKY you are to get out of it.” Uh, no, not how it works … πŸ˜›

Hmm … I don’t know, Zielle! It’s up to you. If you really feel My Homeschool Notebook isn’t a good title for the blog … it might be fun to do a relaunch! Let me know if I can help there. πŸ˜‰ No problem with the hiatus … sometimes we need a rest. πŸ˜‰

    • Yeah, I knowww!! πŸ˜‰ That’s probably exactly what they mean. πŸ˜›

Could be, but then it would suck if I did a relaunch and then had no idea what to post. 😦 Thanks for the ideas, Kell! xx Yeah, I’ll think about it…

  6. Ooo, so good! I was homeschooled, Zielle until I graduated! These were so accurate!! I feel like you are kinda right about your blog name. I feel like you are really good at lifestyle posts, life updates, etc. Whatever you want to post, I’m sure we’ll love it! Haha, I hope other people have more ideas for you because I’m simply failing here! 😝

  7. I’ve been public-schooled all my life, but there is a homeschooling co-op at my church so I’m friends with a lot of homeschoolers! I definitely think that homeschooling is great but it just wouldn’t work out for my family specifically. I don’t think people should judge you if this is just what your parents think works out best!
Also, yes there are certain things that you miss out on when you’re homeschooled but honestly most of them are negative XD Like y’all don’t have to deal with police coming in a searching your bags for drugs, or having drills for what to do if there’s a school-shooter. (both of which have happened, and are not fun) But also if I wasn’t public schooled I wouldn’t be able to be in marching band or go to theatre competitions and be in my school’s shows! I do think homeschooling is cool though, ’cause y’all don’t have to sit through a bunch of extra crap and can get through your school work probably a lot quicker than a full 7-hour public school day!

    • That’s cool! That’s true, different things work for different families. πŸ™‚
Aw… wait… has there been a shooting at your school??
Well I have choir and drama where we do a show every year… this year we’re doing the Sound of Music. πŸ™‚
      Yeah, that’s true, I think!
Thank you so much for your comment, Julia! ❀

  8. Great post; all these annoy me!
Oh Zielle, every blogger hits a wall one time or the other. Honestly, this is a choice you gotta make on your own because this is YOUR blog. You can change the blog name, URL, etc. or you could just start a new blog *shrug* That’s what I did.
But I think you’re right, this blog doesn’t really reflect its name anymore. If I were you, I’d consider changing the blog name and URL but once again, this is YOUR blog. Your choice.
Hope you come to a decision soon! πŸ™‚ I’ll still support you!!

What did you think? I'd love to hear your thoughts. Please keep them clean and respectful, and do not take God's name in vain. Thanks!
