7 Things I Want to Keep Doing/Do Different This Year (Homeschool Edition)

~Hello~

Disclaimer: Images are not mine. I just found them of google. Thank you to whoever these belong to!!

How are you all doing today? I had an almost productive day today. And when I say almost, I mean half the day I cleaned my room, cooked some corned beef and played a game of Catan with my younger brother, and the next half I watched Good Luck Charlie and another movie. ๐Ÿ˜› I also helped my younger brother and Mom wrap some dim-sims. It’s a habit of ours (my brother and me), when we’re making spring-rolls or dim-sims to make different shapes out of them. I made a love heart, a candy in a wrapper, a little mini spring-roll, some weird square shaped thingy, and a flower that ended up being a star. So yeah… that was fun.

Anyway, the real purpose of this post is to cover 7 things I want to do different and keep on doing this year, regarding homeschool.

Let’s dive in!

I – Be more organized

I think this is something we all wish for every school year. I’m going to have all my school books in one spot, my pens (I will never use pencils), my ruler, my score wheel, everything all together so I can access them without hassle every morning. I also made a homeschool planner/yearbook (my PY as I call it) to record my achievements, my grades, assignments, recipes, essays, and other special things like that.

II – Be consistent

In my PY, I have a page for my attendance so I can track how many days each month I studied. Obviously I need to finish my school books some time, so this year I am planning (and I will carry out my plan) to study everyday. I’ve made a list of my subjects and which one of them I have to do each day (Math and English is every day) so I won’t be bogged with doing around 10 subjects each day. I alternate between them and if I write this down, I can see at a glance which subjects I am supposed to be doing on the day without trying to remember what I did the day before.

III – Stick to a curriculum

Last year I had just switched Math curriculum’s and I was trying to find what suited me the best. Also, I have trouble with being decisive and sticking to things (haha) so I want to do different this year. ๐Ÿ˜›

IV – Be motivated

The following are things that I will do to keep myself motivated:

  • Keep my learning fun – I can do this by listening to music if I don’t get distracted; taking breaks
  • Think positive – Think ‘I can do this’ instead of ‘I WILL NEVER FINISH THIS HORRIBLE MATH’
  • Think of the reward at the end – Good grades is a reward, right? *crickets* Right? …
  • Learn my own way

V – Write more

This is a huge one for me. Write anything. From a 50000 word novel to a short journal entry. Just write everyday. I’ve always told myself I’ve wanted to be a writer. Well if I want to be, I need to practice my writing skills now. Let my thoughts flow from my head to my pen to my paper.

VI – Study harder

This is also a big one. Study harder in Math (well in any subject, really), do the best I can, and don’t bash myself up if I get a question wrong.

VII – Have fun

This the most important thing. After all, isn’t that what homeschooling is all about? Bend the schedule a little. Color code everything. Decorate all my notebooks to my hearts content! Melt soap and mold a different shape (who else does this who else tries to melt anything and re-mold it)! Take a break and count a trip to the park where we pick plums and olives as Science! Do my school in the branches of the tree with the sun peeking through the leaves! Live life to the fullest. You can only live it once.

P.S I TRIED TO MELT WAX ONCE. IT DID NOT END WELL. NEVER DO THIS PEOPLE. THE POT YOU USED SHALL HAUNT YOU FOREVER.

A quick reminder that you even though you use your team name many times in your story, you’ll only get pointed (is that a word?) for one, and that the pictures/drawings included in your post (if you want to get points for them) they must be your own. ๐Ÿ™‚

|Getting extra points|

  • You can take photos or draw pictures to illustrate your story. You will get 2 points per photo and illustration.
  • Creativity. This is how creatively you use the prompts. At the end of each round Iโ€™ll select my favorite story and that person will earn more points for their team.
  • If you use the name of your team in your story, you can earn a point for your team. (e.g forest; the forest was dark and gloomy)
  • Youโ€™ll get a point for each prompt you use, and a point for submitting your story/poem.

Deadline: 20th of January 2018

Leave a link down below and the number of points so won’t miss your entry. ๐Ÿ™‚ If I missed your entry for this round and you submitted it within the deadline (12th at midnight), let me know and I’ll tally up your points.

Good luck and have fun!

Sample Story (just pretend I’m on Team Forest)

Story: 1

Prompts: 3

Pictures/Artwork: none

I used my team name: 1

Total points: 5

Emily. 10. The hot pink of her outfit stood out from her pale skin.

Peter. 14. His brown hair lopped over his forehead and his shirt matched the deep blue in his eyes.

I remembered them so well. Emily’s cheerful smiles and playful ponytails. Peter’s awkward grin and thoughtful eyes. I could have been with them forever if only I had held on.

I was a friendly bear in the house, and when the two children, alone, came to my cottage seeking refuge, I invited them in and they stayed for a while. In fact, they stayed from when little Emily was dragging around her new found love of a teddy bear till she was still sleeping cuddled up next it’s patched up, furry, dirty self. That was almost four years they stayed with me.

I loved them with all my heart, and it seemed that they were now my own. Until I let them go. They were happy with me. An orphanage deemed that a bear was not fit for two children to live with, and they ripped them from me, hitting them with the news like someone’s face slapping the surface of water from a fall in the clouds.

Peter was coming home from some errands and was stopped by some people. I still remember what they said:

“What are you doing here?”

“This is my house.”

“Not anymore.”

I just stood by and told my mind that I couldn’t do anything to stop these people from taking the children that had grown to be the only joys in my life.

Emily still sometimes comes to visit me in the forest, and sometimes she comes dressed up as a Princess. When she does this, I take her hand and kiss it gently. I bow and she curtsies.

Just picture Em to be a lot smaller ๐Ÿ˜›

Then she laughs, throws her arms around me and gives me a long hug. I cradle her in my arms for a little bit, then we talk. We talk about anything, really. About the thoughts she’s had. About the things she has done. About the little paper doll she made yesterday.

But it’s not the same. If only I hadn’t given up.

Sorry that was such a bad sample! ๐Ÿ˜› XD

I am going to be away for a few days starting tomorrow (Monday) and won’t be available till the 13th, so there may not be a winner for this second challenge if I don’t get the chance to read all your wonderful stories. :/

I feel like 6 days to write your story was too much time, so you have until the 12th at midnight to submit your story.

Since I will be away, please put the link in the comments, along with the number of prompts, if you used your team name, and the total number of points for everything. That way, if I don’t get the chance to read all your stories, I can look at the comments and add all the points up easily. And if you do this it, your entry won’t be missed. ๐Ÿ™‚ Thanks so much! ๐Ÿ˜€

If I missed your name, please let me know so I can fix it.

Good luck to all the teams and have fun! ๐Ÿ˜€

Back 2 School {My DIY 2018 Yearbook/Planner Tour)

*I’m actually excited for back to school…

*I’m weird that way…
~Hello~
like it? ๐Ÿ˜‰

Welcome to today’s post! Since 2017 (*gapes* wow I’ve been doing this since last year hahahaa my old joke for every year AHEM), December, I’ve been working on a yearbook/planner for the my school year 2018. This is my 2nd year of highschool, so unlike last year, I want to plan my school out better and actually achieve my goals.

I’m kinda obsessed with planner pages (when they’re done right. They have to perfect!), but with this planner/yearbook (I’m just gonna refer to it as PY from now on), I’ve been trying to look for a more creative approach to this. Let’s say I half failed half um… un-failed.

First, sorry for all the crappy pictures! :/

The cover of my binder looked kind of old, so depending on my mood, I may change it toย  something more modern.

Here I have my index page. It’s still a work in progress, as you can see it’s not yet completed. The next page is an ‘ideas page’ where I put down any ideas for a project, and when I’m bogged for ideas, I can simply go to that page. And there you have my horrible artwork.

Just today were at the store so my Mom bought me notebooks for my school. I had this amazing idea to get binder books so I could store all my notebooks in my binder so I wouldn’t have to carry them to the table everyday. Instead, I’d have them all in one binder. #lightbulb

A few things went wrong 1) I didn’t pay attention, and 3 of the six notebooks I got did not have binder holes in them 2) not all of them fit into my one binder.

Luckily, I saved the day and I had another binder. I put my three orange notebooks in a separate binder. My more important and more studied subjects such as English, Math and Science went in there. Those were the ones with the binder holes.

The green ones without the binder holes, I simply slipped them in a protective sheet and clipped it into my PY.

In this second section of my PY, I have my School Supplies. I have my current curriculum list, and on the next page the curriculum I need to buy/look at/borrow from the library.

In the next section I have a place where I can look at it and see my whole year on paper.

Jeremiah 29:11 ” ‘For I know the plans I have for you’ declares the Lord. ‘Plans to prosper and not for calamity. To give you a future and a hope’.” โค

Then I added in a Lesson Planning section so I can see what subjects I have to do on the day, and what chapter. I wasn’t really needed, but I had fun doodling on the pages so I kept them in. ๐Ÿ˜‰

20180106_203234

After that I have my Attendance, Grades and Assignments. Basically in this section are my attendance, grades and assignments… So I can see how many days of each month I did my schooling, and what subjects need to be improved by what grades I get.

Then there is my English section, where I have a bookshelf. When I read a book I write the title, author and date on one of the books. Then I have my Brave Writer transcript (I removed my name from the bottom) from 2016 when I took and Expository Essay class, and my Exploratory Essay is on the following pages.

Then I have History and my Artsy Art Adventure section, not that I’m very artsy… And then I have the 30 Day Doodle Challenge. I got it from here. Here I’ll put all my artwork.

Next I have Home Economics where I plan to put my own recipes, pictures of my cookings, and other home ec. related stuff.

After that I have extra curricular stuff like choir and piano and drama.

And that’s finished! ๐Ÿ™‚ I hope you didn’t get bored hehe ๐Ÿ˜‰

See you tomorrow for AAWC challenge two!

~ Zielle

Smile! God loves you.
