Ivy Introspective

Ivy Introspective 1.jpg
I love this cover!

Trapped in a world where she doesn鈥檛 belong, twelve-year-old Ivy Knight struggles to keep her head above water as her simplicity is brought to light by her new position as a young lady growing up at Pearlbelle Park.

Worried about their daughter鈥檚 inability to fit in, Ivy鈥檚 parents decide to send her to McCale House, a boarding school in Scotland for boys and girls like her. However, alone and frightened without her beloved mother, sister, and nurse, Ivy can鈥檛 seem to focus.

Will Ivy ever learn what Dr. McCale is trying to teach her? Or will she remain lost in her own mind forever?

Wow! I loved this book! I felt as though the plot was ‘too small’ for the length of this novel, but that’s probably just me imagining things. 馃槈

Violet Angel was my favorite character. She’s a sarcastic, rebellious, girl who needs love and is hurting. I felt so sorry for her, and I just loved her to bits. I’m so glad Kellyn included her in this book.聽 I liked how it didn’t exactly ‘show’ that she became a christian, because in real life, sometimes it’s not like that. It was implied that she would think about it, and that she was open minded about it all. But it wasn’t very clear that Mr. Parker became a christian, it was only left for us to think, although that didn’t change how I saw the book.

I thought Dr. McCale would be a guy who deems these children in his school as ‘insane and teach them in a whole different way as it showed in the book. But I really liked his character. I loved the way he taught his students. I sort of found McCale House not very believable because of how little students there were, but that didn’t matter.

Posy is such a sweet girl; tough, yet yearning for the love of her father.

I loved how Ivy’s newfound hobby was (SPOILER ALERT!) music. (END OF SPOILERS) I believe that music is a powerful and beautiful thing, and I just loved it! She is such a sweet young lady.

The setting, as usual, is very clearly and wonderfully described all in dialogue, description, and names.

Kellyn’s writing is amazing. I very much enjoyed reading her book, and look forward to reading the next books in this series!

this cover is gorgeous!

After a revealing conversation with the first children of her age she鈥檚 ever met, curious eight-year-old Alice Chattoway realizes that one ought to have a father 鈥 and she doesn鈥檛. Having determined that his absence is making her mother unhappy, Alice resolves to find him and create a family for herself.

However, Alice鈥檚 mother, Miss Chattoway, is reluctant to answer any questions posed about a man she鈥檇 much rather forget. While Alice investigates, Miss Chattoway tries to balance her own spiritual turmoil with her need to be both mother and provider to her daughters.

Will Alice ever unravel her mother鈥檚 secrets? Can Miss Chattoway let go of the past to reach for the future?

**This is a review聽of the second edition of The Dressmaker’s Secret, published June 2017**

Bravo, Kellyn! You are an amazing, talented authoress! You should be amazingly proud of yourself. 馃檪

Characters:

Alice Chattoway: I loved Alice’s inquisitive, brave character, and I loved the relationship between she and Ivy. Alice is an 8 year old girl, the twin of her sister, Ivy, but a little bit older. I loved her character, and Kellyn did a great job of portraying her.

Nettie (Annette) Atwater: Nettie is Miss Claire Chattoway’s (Alice’s mother) maid, and good friend. She is also the Alice and Ivy’s nurse/governess. I loved her character; the way she was friends with Claire Chattoway, and how she loved the two girls.

Mr. Knight: Mr. Phil Knight is the owner of Pearlbelle Park, and (SPOILER ALERT) the newfound father of Alice and Ivy. (END OF SPOILERS) He is another character I like as well.

Claire (Molly) Chattoway: Miss Chattoway is a young mother trying to support her two little girls and trying to let go of her path. Kellyn did an amazing job showing her character, and just forming her all together.

Kirk Manning: I loved Kirk’s character (and I love it even more in Ivy Introspective!). I just wished there was more scenes with him included, and was so happy to see that he was also included in book two! He is the stable boy at Pearlbelle Park, and a mischievous boy.

I’m not going to include all the characters here, because there are quite a few, but let’s just say, they are all amazing.

Setting:

Kellyn did a superb job in writing out the setting. The character’s dialogue was perfect in time with the era she chose, and just the description, the names of the characters added into the touch of remembering that we were dealing with the late 1800’s. And just the way Kellyn described everything in her language as the storyteller, and not just showing it in the character’s dialogue really made me feel I was in the 1800’s as well. I could never do something like that.

Writing:

The writing was very very good! That’s all I can say. Her writing is prolific!

Overall:

Although the genre of this book is not usually my type, it was a good and worthwhile read. I didn’t really like the way things ended with them, but I got over it. 馃檪

I would recommend this book to any lover of historical fiction. You’ll find it is worth your time and money. 馃檪

Go ahead and check out this book! (Amazon,聽Goodreads,聽Barnes&Nobles,聽Createspace, Kobo, iBooks, and聽Inktera)

Why Fidget Spinners?

In case you don’t know what fidget spinners are (if you don’t, HOW. THEY. ARE. SO. POPULAR.) , they’re like tops, except with skateboard bearings in the middle and ‘caps’ on the bottom and top. You hold it in between your fingers where the middle bearing is and spin it around. There is also a diamond spinner which I think is really cool.

61k8imd2p5l
basic fidget spinners. you can get some really pretty ones too.

You can actually make your own fidget spinner. Obviously, it won’t spin for as long, but it will spin for pretty long. 馃檪

So first, how are they fidget spinners? Fidgeting is moving your fingers around, tapping the floor, and just basically not sitting/standing still. 馃槢 With a fidget spinner, you just hold it in between your fingers and watch it spin. Sure, you can do tricks with it, like jump it to one finger to the other and stuff like that, but without that, you just watch it. My brother said it was created for anxiety and to help kids concentrate in school, but all the kids I know who have fidget spinners say that their teachers take them of them in school. XD

I’m not saying fidget spinners are bad, though. You can find some really pretty ones; and that’s literally why I like fidget spinners. Coz THEY. ARE. SO. PRETTY. You can get some really pretty metal ones. SO. SHINY. They also come in different shapes that make them so gorgeous! *screams

But I don’t have one. Coz I tap my feet when I’m sitting down and bored. 馃槢

p.s

my brother wanted to do a section of this post about how to get a good fidget spinner, so here is his part of the post: (I also decided to do it in a question and answer form)

What’s good about a fidget spinner?

Well, it’s fun and is so called to be anxiety relieving. You can get it even if you don’t have anxiety 馃槢 and for something to do when your bored

What’s better: a two sided fidget spinner or a three sided one? Why?

I’m gonna get right to it. 3 sided. Why? a 3 sided fidget spinner, when you spin it and move it around, it tends to spin longer. 2 sided ones don’t spin very long if you move it around. It stops in 2 seconds. but, if you don’t move a 2 sided one around to much, its pretty much fine. so all in all, I would say 3 sided ones, but 2 sided ones are alright.

How do I know if the fidget spinner I want isn’t good quality?

Try test it, and the main things you want to be aware of is the middle bearing. some bearings tend to push out a little, so look out for that. make sure it is tight. You can notice that if it doesn’t wobble when you spin it. second, is that it spins fast. (obviously you already know to look out for this.)

How do you know a fast fidget spinner when you test it?

If it looks like it’s spinning fast, basically.

Overall, what would be the best fidget spinner to get?

im gonna cut to the chase. 3 sided, tight bearing, quiet bearing, spins fast.

ciao.

My Corner of The Charis Rae Launch Tour

Hi everyone! Charis has officially launched her new blog, CHARISRAE.COM. I’m so excited for her! Most of you will most likely know her as Grace (TheGirlUpstairs), which is greek for Charis.

About the Author:

Among many things, I am a dreamer, dancer, writer & photographer, blogger, bibliophile, and daughter of the King. I enjoy blogging and am excited to move my blog to the next level.

About Charis Rae:

Charis Rae is a self-hosted, more professional version of my former blog, The Girl Upstairs. After blogging for quite a while, I decided to switch to a more professional platform and share more about me, my life, and my name. 馃槈 On Charis Rae, I鈥檓 going to be sharing my interests, abilities, and journey through life and blogging, with all of you along for the ride.

My Blogging Journey:

My journey in the vast universe of the World Wide Web began at about age 9. My dad set up a private, Blogger-hosted blog read only by my friends and close family. I loved blogging, and although I wasn鈥檛 consistent, I enjoyed creating content.

Now, several years later, I am creating my own self-hosted, professional blogging platform.

My Hopes for Charis Rae:

I hope that Charis Rae will become just as successful as The Girl Upstairs, but will reach more people, and eventually grow into something beyond my wildest dreams. I鈥檓 also excited to 鈥渓earn the ropes鈥 of self-hosting, coding, and WordPress.org. I can鈥檛 wait to see what the future has in store!

MY REVIEW FOR CHARIS RAE

Design (4/5 stars)

I love the font, and the flowers are all so pretty! I think it could use a bit more graphics, though. Overall, I think it’s a lovely design!

Content (4/5 stars)

I’m just gonna give it a 4/5 star rating, because she hasn’t really posted anything yet, although I’m sure, judging by what she’s put on The Girl Upstairs, her content will be worthy of five stars. 馃槈聽 But I like what Charis has put on her pages.

‘About’ page (5/5 stars)

I enjoyed reading her about page (and by the way Charis is pronounced cair-iss, and it rhymes with Paris 馃槈 ok, admit it, you needed you needed to know that; how beautiful is her name!! 馃槷 鉂 ). It covered a lot of the lovely things about her! Go read it! 馃槈

Finding Stuff 馃槢 (5/5)

There is a search box at the top of the sidebar, and the pages are really easy to find.

Overall (4.5/5)

Overall, her blog is lovely, and I’m super excited to see what amazing things she’ll do with it! 馃榾

Welcome to MHN!

Hi fellow book lovers, writers, bloggers and other lovelies!

Welcome to MHN. This is the blog of me; a girl who loves to write. I love pouring out my thoughts, and this blog will be a compilation filled with my ramblings, writings, readings, homeschool life, and the other joys of being me.

I also have another blog, a book blog where I post book review, book tags, and other booky posts. Check it out!

I started this blog because I wanted a place to pour out my thoughts, and because the thought sounded good. I gave it quite a long break, and then I went back to blogging life. I enjoy it, but sometimes I think I spend too much time on it. I love emojis (which is totally why there aren’t any yet in this post XD ), so prepare to see a bunch of them!

I love likes, but I love comments even more, and would love it if you guys could leave a after reading. 馃檪 I will do my best to respond to them.

Please be polite, respectful, and God-honoring around here, and you may stay as long as your heart desires. 馃槈
